After graduation from Rice University, John started his career as a CPA with Price Waterhouse in Houston and Paris. He then completed law school at the University of  Houston and practiced as a tax partner for over forty years with Porter Hedges, Jackson Walker, BoyarMiller and Chamberlain Hrdlicka. 

John grew up on his great grandparent’s ranch in West Texas which he and his family still own and operate. He enjoys traveling with his family and friends along with outdoor activities such as sailing and fly fishing.
